Our client is one of the top building and construction companies in the commercial real estate industry. They have multiple locations throughout the US and Canada. They specialize in the industrial, civil and special projects markets. They are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their team!

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$60,000 – $75,000

Position Overview:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and executing the payroll process for a diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This Payroll Specialist role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Specialist:

  • Accurately process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for all employees, including salaried, hourly, and temporary staff
  • Review and verify timesheets, ensuring all hours worked are recorded correctly and comply with company policies and labor laws
  • Calculate and process deductions and benefits, including taxes, insurance, retirement contributions, and garnishments
  • Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations; stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports to management, including gross-to-net calculations, tax summaries, and labor distribution reports
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees, providing clear and accurate information in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and securely stored
  • Assist with internal and external payroll audits, providing necessary documentation and information as required
  • Utilize payroll software to process payroll; troubleshoot and resolve any system issues

Qualifications for the Payroll Specialist:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably within the construction industry or a large organization
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws
  • Proficient in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Workday) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality

Education Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
