Salary/Hourly Rate:
$80k – $85k
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Financial Controller to join our nonprofit organization in a direct-hire capacity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and controller duties, ideally with experience in the nonprofit sector. This position is perfect for a detail-oriented and mission-driven professional who wants to contribute to meaningful work within the nonprofit space.
Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:
- Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes, collaborating with department heads to ensure financial goals are met.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, providing actionable insights into key financial metrics and trends.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial data is accurate and timely.
- Support the audit process, providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
- Assist with tax filings, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements in accounting and financial reporting functions.
- Provide Ad-hoc financial analysis as needed to support strategic decisions.
Required Experience/Skills for the Financial Controller:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting and financial management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Proficiency in financial reporting, accounting software, and ERP systems (experience with Excel is essential).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial controls, and tax compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or relevant certifications (CMA, CFA) are a plus.
