Our client is a successful, family-owned business specializing in manufacturing specialized materials for custom-engineered solutions. With a diverse product range, they serve industries including automotive, aerospace, energy systems, graphic arts, industrial, optical, and medical sectors. Currently, they are looking to add a Materials Testing Technician to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$60k – $70k Annually (Based on relevant experience)
Position Overview
The Materials Testing Technician role offers valuable hands-on experience in coating trials, mechanical testing, and data analysis, collaborating closely with the Pilot Coating Manager and R&D engineers. The ideal candidate for the Materials Testing Technician will play a key role in trial setup and cleanup, raw material preparation, and the formulation of laminating and bonding systems.
Responsibilities of the Materials Testing Technician:
- Assist in setting up and cleaning up pilot coating trials.
- Acquire and prepare raw materials for trial activities.
- Mix and formulate laminating and bonding systems as needed.
- Support R&D product and process engineers with trial execution.
- Conduct mechanical testing (e.g., tensile strength, adhesion, flexibility) to aid in product and process development.
- Accurately gather, interpret, and document test data.
- Provide backup support to the Quality Control (QC) Technician when needed.
- Ensure all testing is conducted per safety and quality standards.
- Maintain precise records of trial setups, test results, and findings.
- Assist in generating reports and documentation for product development.
- Identify process improvement opportunities based on test data and observations.
Required Experience/Skills for the Materials Testing Technician:
- Strong interest in technical and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and coating systems, with a strong willingness to learn.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Comfortable with IT systems and quick to adapt to new software tools.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Materials Testing Technician:
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and laboratory equipment.
- Background or interest in materials science or manufacturing processes.
- Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented approach to work.
Education Requirements:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is required.
- STEM degree or equivalent work experience, ideally in a manufacturing-related field.
