Our client is a thriving NYC-based nonprofit. They are seeking an Accounting Manager to join their team!

Salary/Hourly Rate:

Up to $100k+

Position Overview:

As the Accounting Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting processes. The Accounting Manager will oversee a team of accounting professionals and collaborate closely with other departments to support our overall business objectives.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, overseeing all accounting transactions
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads. Monitor and report on budget performance, providing analysis and recommendations. Develop financial forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making
  • Compliance and Auditing: Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and other relevant accounting standards. Coordinate and manage annual audits, preparing necessary documentation and liaising with external auditors. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets
  • Grant Management: Oversee financial aspects of grant management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance. Work with program managers to ensure proper allocation and tracking of grant funds
  • Payroll and Benefits Administration: Manage payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws. Oversee the maintenance of employee payroll records and benefits documentation
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment within the finance team
  • Systems and Process Improvement: Evaluate and enhance accounting processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in nonprofit accounting

Qualifications for the Accounting Manager:

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit environment
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit financial regulations
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • Certified Public Accountant is a major plus
