Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70k – $80k+ DOE

Position Overview:

The Accounting Manager will be integral to a small, hands-on accounting team, collaborating with the CFO to manage daily accounting functions. This role blends accounting responsibilities with HR tasks such as onboarding and offboarding while performing real-time transactional work using QuickBooks. The ideal candidate will support and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and compliance across financial processes while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:

  • Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including bill entry, clearing AR transactions, credit card and account reconciliations, and tracking project costs.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining balance sheets, income statements, other financial statements, and financial reports to assess profitability.
  • Monitor payroll processing, oversee sales tax submissions, and handle onboarding and offboarding tasks, including I-9 verification and payroll system setup, and onboarding/offboarding operational procedure.
  • Mentor and support the accounting team, helping staff develop their skills, and lead by example with a hands-on approach to solving accounting and operational challenges.
  • Become a QuickBooks expert and ensure team proficiency in its usage.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices for accounting operations.
  • Prepare and issue subcontracts (both short and long form), change orders, and purchase orders as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for smooth financial operations and participate in strategic decision-making.
  • Undertake other projects as assigned.
  • Manage AIA documents, including progress billings, change orders, owner modifications, invoices, lien releases, insurance, and compliance tracking.
  • Assist with vehicle compliance audits, ensuring standards are met.
  • Lead annual audit preparations and reviews, handling audit requests efficiently.
  • Manage financial aspects of fleet operations, including tracking expenses, depreciation, and maintenance costs.
  • Assist in compliance audits to ensure fleet-related documentation meets regulatory standards.

Qualifications for the Accounting Manager:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting roles, preferably within construction or related industry.
  • Experience with QuickBooks is required.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals, including working with ledgers, balance sheets, and reconciliations.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and drive value by taking initiative.

Education Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field or equivalent proven experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
