Atrium is partnering with an experienced commercial real estate finance company headquartered in Los Angeles, CA.  Our client specializes in small-balance commercial lending including Business Commercial Real Estate Financing, Investment Commercial Real Estate Financing, and Loan Servicing. The team is now looking for an Associate, Credit and Underwriting.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$90k – $150k annually.

Position Overview:

The Associate, Credit and Underwriting, is a key player in managing and overseeing the underwriting of new commercial real estate loans. This Associate, Credit and Underwriting role also includes managing a portfolio of closed loans, ensuring the quality, completeness, and accuracy of the analysis that precedes credit and business decisions. The Associate, Credit and Underwriting will play a crucial role in managing the overall risk composition of our client’s loan portfolio.

Responsibilities of the Associate, Credit and Underwriting:

  • Manage and oversee the underwriting process for new commercial real estate loans.
  • Ensure thorough and accurate analysis of potential loan opportunities, including financial, market, and property assessments.
  • Manage a portfolio of closed loans, ensuring ongoing monitoring and analysis to maintain the quality and performance of the loan portfolio.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues.
  • Evaluate and manage the overall risk composition of the loan portfolio.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risk while optimizing returns.
  • Conduct detailed credit analysis and due diligence on prospective borrowers.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memos and recommendations for loan approval.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including credit, origination, and legal, to ensure seamless execution of loan transactions.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as borrowers, brokers, and appraisers, to facilitate the underwriting process.
  • Ensure all loan documentation is complete, accurate, and complies with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and files for all loan transactions.
  • Stay informed about market trends, property values, and economic conditions that could impact the commercial real estate market.
  • Utilize this knowledge to inform underwriting decisions and risk assessments.

Qualifications for the Associate, Credit and Underwriting:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Commercial Real Estate Underwriting, Credit Analysis, or related roles.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and underwriting software.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment as an Associate, Credit and Underwriting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
  • MBA or another advanced degree is preferred.
