Our client is seeking a Building Engineer to be based in their Northern New Jersey office.  Our client is a fast-paced private equity real estate investment firm. They own and manage over 10 million square feet and control over 1,000 acres of land in business parks in the US.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$7k – $75k DOE

Position Overview:

The Building Engineer plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of our client’s buildings. This role ensures that all operations are running smoothly and addresses any concerns/issues immediately to ensure prompt solutions.

Responsibilities of the Building Engineer:

  • Communicate well and work closely with vendors, contractors, and the Management team to ensure the needs of the tenants and buildings are satisfactorily met.
  • Inspect all areas of the building(s) and report deficiencies as well as suggestions for improvement.
  • Oversee and inspect the work of contractors, vendors, and trade workers.
  • Receive and respond to tenant reports of mechanical or maintenance issues.
  • Review and coordinate work assignments, plan work to be performed, and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Evaluate, repair, and maintain plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Complete assignments and paperwork promptly.
  • Possess knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of equipment, power, and hand tools.
  • Demonstrate exemplary tenant relations, team spirit, and respect for others. Administer necessary inventory control programs to ensure adequate spare parts and material inventories.

Qualifications for the Building Engineer:

  • Must have a good and clean driving record.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to multitask.
  • Must be able to use and understand the basic functions of a smartphone and be computer literate.
  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • The physical demands described must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • This job is a labor position and is considered heavy in physical requirements.
  • This position is active and requires regular standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching and/or climbing.
  • There is frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds.

Education Requirements:

  • Relevant work experience is preferred.
