Salary/Hourly Rate:
$50/hr – $70/hr
Position Overview:
Our client, a dynamic and growing private equity and investment firm in Manhattan, NY, is seeking a temporary Controller to support their Finance team. This position is being created to assist the current Controller with an increased workload. The role involves hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting operations and offers an opportunity to implement process improvements. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial services experience, particularly in private equity, and will help optimize accounting systems and practices.
Responsibilities of the Controller:
- Assist the current Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial activities.
- Participate in the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Help clean up and reconcile the intercompany balance sheet.
- Post journal entries, review financial statements, and analyze reporting for accuracy.
- Provide financial planning and analysis support, ensuring data is clear and actionable.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and initiatives as they arise.
- Propose and implement improvements to existing accounting processes, with a focus on streamlining manual tasks (e.g., AP process improvements, and use of technology).
- Collaborate with senior leadership to assess current financial systems and offer process enhancements.
Qualifications for the Controller:
- At least 15 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong background in financial services, private equity administration, or investment banking.
- Experience in Sage Intacct or similar accounting software is a plus.
- Strong hands-on approach with the ability to roll up sleeves and contribute directly to tasks – this position does not involve managing staff.
- Demonstrated ability to suggest process improvements and implement effective changes.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both finance and non-finance team members.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or other professional certifications are a plus but not required.
