Our client is a large full-service law firm with locations throughout the US specializing in Real Estate, Litigation, and Transactional Services. They are now looking for a Controller to join their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$135k – $200k
Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities within the firm. This role includes managing the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, developing and implementing financial strategies, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and laws. The Controller will collaborate closely with the executive team to support the firm’s financial goals and objectives.
Responsibilities of the Controller:
- Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecasts, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the executive team, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
Required Experience/Skills for the Controller:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an equivalent role.
- Experience in a professional services environment, preferably within a law firm, is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
- ASC 842 – lease accounting experience
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
