Our client is a well-established and fast-growing personal care/beauty products developer with consumer-loving brands and strong innovative initiatives. They are looking to add an R&D Director-Skincare to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$150k – $200k plus Bonus, Depending on experience
Position Overview:
The successful R&D Director-Skincare will lead & manage the company’s growing R&D projects (lotion, body wash, cleanser, deodorant, and others). They will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, execution, maintenance, and process improvement for all existing and new products & services, targeting to achieve optimum customer satisfaction, market competitiveness and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities of the R&D Director-Skincare:
- Lead product development projects in all identified products including skin care, body care, and cleaning lines.
- Initiate innovative research on green, sustainable, and clean raw materials and ingredients for product formulation and application, for both existing and new products.
- Coordinate with pilot testing, clinical trials, technology transfer in conjunction with production, scale-up plans, contract manufacturers, etc.
- Coordinate with Marketing and Packaging to ensure consumer trends updates and packaging info accuracy.
- Coordinate with different functional groups including QA, Marketing & Sales, Supply Chain & Logistics, and other internal resources & external contract manufacturers and ingredient vendors.
- Initiate product improvement strategies including product texture, efficacy, sensory attributes, and performance.
- Maintain up-to-date market trends on new products, consumer preferences, and changing regulatory needs.
- Ensure ingredients and products comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Lead, manage, and train formulation scientists and chemists.
Required Experience/Skills for the R&D Director-Skincare:
- Experience in skincare/consumer care/body care / cleaning product formulation and product development in GMP environments.
- Minimum of 8 years in innovation roles in R&D and leadership capacity.
- Experience with outside contract labs and manufacturers.
- Experience in product innovation, process improvement & optimization, pilot batches identification/scale up / tech transfer to full production.
- Project management and product launch experience.
- Ability to identify room for innovation with market product & trend analysis.
- Ability to lead a creative team.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders & vendors.
- Experience in training, coaching, and developing a team.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Prominent leadership skills.
- Ability to do about 20% domestic traveling.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related scientific disciplines.
- Advanced degree is preferred.
