Atrium is working with a leading manufacturer of tools and instruments within the services industry. They offer an award-winning culture and work environment, unlike your atypical manufacturing setting. They are actively seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join their team based in Largo, FL. This is an incredible opportunity for a Senior Cost Accountant to be involved in a highly visible position while earning the opportunity to become a Manager quickly. The Senior Cost Accountant must be technically strong, comfortable taking ownership of their respective financials, and be familiar with cost accounting principles and concepts.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$80k – $90k
Position Overview:
The Senior Cost Accountant will be reporting directly to the Accounting Manager and primarily assisting in the general assurance that accounting is accurate, specifically during month-end close. This position will serve as a lead accountant in the department responsible for cost accounting duties, sales tax compliance and working cross functionally throughout the organization.
Responsibilities of the Senior Cost Accountant:
- Upload and maintain sales tax exemption certificates in the portal.
- Reconcile monthly sales tax returns and ensure accurate coding of sales tax return / ACH
- Process sales tax credits and rebills.
- Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) reports and analysis.
- Manages inventory reconciliations, analysis, and troubleshooting when necessary.
- Evaluate and prepare standard cost and WIP.
- Create and submit manual invoices and credits.
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end close.
- Prepare monthly inventory and other balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain vendor information for accounts payable.
- Calculate and reconcile monthly customer rebates and commissions.
- Maintain and report on fixed assets or other financial metrics as needed.
- Perform accounting research and determine the correct application.
- Identify, suggest, and implement process improvements.
- Support interim and annual financial statement audits.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities as requested by Supervisor or Manager.
- Create and maintain internal controls and/or SOPs as new processes are implemented.
- Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Cost Accountant:
- Three to five years of experience in accounting, analysis, and/or cost accounting.
- Strong understanding of inventory and/or cost accounting.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V/H/X LOOKUPs, formulas, sum if, etc.).
- Involves extensive internal and external customer communication, critical thinking, and abilities to interface with both financial and non-financial personnel.
- Must be able to make independent decisions on routine office activities with a high level of organization.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Cost Accountant:
- Proficiency with ERP systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or Navision is highly preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent related business degree is required.
