Client Overview:

Our client is a team-oriented food distributor in the process of being SQF Certified. Many of their products are kosher and organic, and some fall under the FDA. They are a BRC facility currently and import raw materials internationally. They have a friendly and positive environment. An SQF Practitioner is needed to facilitate the SQF certification process at this company.

Position Overview:

The SQF Practitioner will work with food-ready software to ensure all steps in the process are thoroughly completed. The role will be remote, but an initial visit and some follow-up visits will need to be made to the site in Parsippany, NJ. Travel will be covered, but a drivable distance is highly preferred. The ideal SQF Practitioner needs to start immediately and have availability to cover 20 – 30 hours a week for 3 – 4 months. 

Responsibilities of the SQF Practitioner:

  • The SQF Practitioner will serve as the designated SQF Practitioner and the main point of contact for food safety compliance.
  • Oversee and guide the final stages of the SQF certification process.
  • Review and update SQF documentation, procedures, and records to ensure full compliance.
  • Conduct internal audits, mock audits, and gap assessments as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Sanitation, etc.) to drive food safety practices.
  • Lead audit preparation activities, ensuring all areas and personnel are ready for the one-week SQF audit.
  • Be present and available during the audit to support, respond to auditor questions, and provide documentation.
  • Monitor corrective actions and help close out any non-conformances identified during the audit.
  • Train or refresh team members on SQF-related procedures and best practices.

Required Experience/Skills for the SQF Practitioner:

  • Be an SQF Practitioner with a positive personality and great communication skills.
  • Ideally have experience overseeing the SQF certification process of a facility.
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • BRC, Organic, Kosher experience.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the SQF Practitioner:

  • PCQI certified.
  • GFSI auditor is highly preferred.
  • FDA experience.
  • FSMA experience is highly preferred.
  • Friendly personality with good communication skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field is required.
